We just had our first gathering of the Yada Yada Book Club. This is a new group formed through our Women's Ministries at our church. We started out with "Yada Yada Prayer Group" by Neta Jackson. It's the first book in a series of 5 (so far). As a group we won't be reading the other four, but we did enjoy this one. We had a great discussion which centered around multi-racial friendships.
It wasn't a coincidence that the club and the book share a name. At the meeting of the Women's Ministries Team, of which I am a part, we learned about the word "yada". One of the women happened to bring the "Yada Yada Prayer Group" book to use in decorating the book club booth at our annual Women's Fall Faire. We were looking for a name for the club and . . . . .well. . . . . it seemed like a God thing.
According to the book itself, in Hebrew Yada means "to perceive, understand, acquire knowledge, know, discern." It also can mean, "To be known, make oneself known, to be familiar". So it's a pretty good name I'd say.
Our next book will be "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. I've read this one and loved it. I'm looking forward to re-reading it and sharing it with others.

Got any multi-racial friends? And really what is a multi-racial friend? Am I one of yours? I'm serious does multiracial mean one person of many races or are we talkin many friends of different races? Wish I'de paid more attention in school, now I attempt to understand and it reminds me of the quip....if I don't want to appear stupid, keep my mouth shut or speak and remove all doubt...Thanks, Betsy for blogging, I'm pleased to keep in touch with you.
